Hard to believe it's been three years since Giancarlo Stanton led the National League in home runs, but he's back in the top spot as of this year's All-Star break, a development that vaults Garrett Schwab and Michael Orobona into "legitimate contender" status. On the AL side, the HR chase may be the only lost cause category in the entire pool, with the likes of Manny Machado, Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz all trailing Aaron Judge by at least a dozen dingers. Greg Holland looks to be pulling away from the NL Saves crowd, but all it takes is one injury for Kenley Jansen to get back in the running there.
Leading the pool at this juncture, on the strength of Nolan Arenado's NL RBI lead and a one HBP advantage over Jud Ehrbar, is Mark Watzke. Watzke also owns what is potentially the most important "unique pick" in this year's pool, as Carlos Correa trails in the AL RBI race by just five. Speaking of unique picks, there are three of them in the money as of now, and Bob English is the proud selector of two of them, George Springer (AL Runs) and Alex Colome (AL Saves). Will Rice, with Paul Goldschmidt (NL Runs) is the third.
It looks to be shaping up to be an interesting "second half" in the MLB as well as the pool, so enjoy tonight's All-Star game and get yourselves ready for the remaining action to come.
